The main website is now updated with the Make-A-Wish (R) Australia supporter logo’s.  We are now at the serious end of all this - money.  We are aiming to raise 5 thousand dollars from the sale of this book, with all the proceeds going to Make-A-Wish (R) Australia.

It’s only a coupla hundred sales - and I’m sure that there are enough people out there who actually need this book.

Think about it - if you’re spending money on good quality coffee (that’d be about $10-20 per packet) and then you waste it because you either burn the coffee, extract too much espresso, make it too watery, burn the milk etc - then each packet of coffee you buy is a waste.

Stop wasting your coffee - get the book - be impressed with what a 5-year-old can do - and then impress yourself and your friends with the coffee you can make at home.  And in the process, you get to feel all warm and fuzzy because your money has gone even further and helped lighten up the world of a child whose life is in danger.

What are you waiting for - let’s raise 5K.  Go get the book - and don’t forget the bonuses!

Last Wednesday after work - and over coffee of course - I met with Isabelle from Make-A-Wish (R) Australia and we signed the documents confirming our arrangement.  So, now it’s all official - 100% of the proceeds of the sale of The Perfect Home Espresso will go to Make-A-Wish (R) Australia who will use the funds to make a wish come true for a child with a life threatening illness.

I’ve updated the website with a new headline and also added the official logo’s from Make-A-Wish (R) Australia.

So, now it’s just a matter of getting more traffic to the site and making some sales.

The book really does deliver.  It’s over 30 pages of pictures - each one detailing the step by step approach to making the perfect espresso at home using your home espresso machine.

perfect_home_espresso

  • How to prepare the glasses
  • How to pack the coffee in the basket to avoid bitter or weak coffee
  • How to place the basket and arm in the coffee machine
  • How long to extract the espresso for
  • What you can modify if things don’t go so well
  • How to get that thick golden crema
  • How to prepare the milk
  • How to steam the milk properly - without burning it or getting big bubbles
  • How to pour the milk and keep that crema sitting on the top

And, Yes, Harley can do all this and by himself.  Please bookmark this blog, share it, bookmark it, send the link to your email lists - we really need to start some momentum.  To me, it’s a simple decision.  Get a book, and two bonus reports AND by doing so, you contribute to a children’s charity.
Just go do it.

It’s confirmed

by Nic on May 9, 2009

OK, so I had the meeting with the Make-A-Wish Australia representative (an awesome person by the way), and I’ve now heard back that it’s all good to go.  I just need to sign some documents confirming that Harley and I will be donating 100% of the proceeds from the sale of the book during the promotional period to Make-A-Wish (R) Australia.

I’ll be signing the documents next Wednesday and then I can put the logo’s on the site.

The next task is going to be optimizing the site with on-page and off-page SEO and using some social marketing to drive a little more traffic to the site.  I’ve already managed to get the site on the first page of google for the broad search - perfect home espresso - which lists about 800,000 website.

2nd on the front page of google for perfect home espresso

2nd on the front page of google for perfect home espresso

Now I’m after front page listing for more competitive phrases like ‘home-espresso’ and ‘espressohome‘ etc.  I’ll keep you updated on how this goes and let’s hope we raise some money for those kids in need.

One of the main aims of creating The Perfect Home Espresso with Harley was to raise some money for charity.  After evaluating a number of charities, we finally decided on the Make-A-Wish Australia charity for children with life threatening illness.

The basic aim is to grant a wish for seriously ill children - and this usually involves providing some sort of special experience for them, such as meeting their hero or favorite celebrity, going somewhere special or receving a toy.

As a parent I am  fortunate to have a healthy child and he’s fortunate to be able to fulfil his ‘wishes’, like writing and publishing a book.  The Make a Wish charity seemed like the perfect way for us to celebrate our achievement together.

I’m meeting with a representative of Make-A-Wish Australia next Wednesday to go over the finer details and to develop a marketing plan for the book.  It feels great to be working on something like this.

We made it happen

by Nic on April 30, 2009

I love ideas.  I love it even more when we’re able to make the idea a reality.  And this is now the case with The Perfect Home Espresso - a new book by my 5-year-old, Harley Lucas.

The story goes like this.  I love coffee and one of the best presents I have ever received was an Italian home espresso machine.  And since then, I’ve been making coffee at home with my son, Harley.  He started when he was just one - and now he’s five.

By the age of four, he could basically make an espresso that rivaled most cafes.  I just needed to help him out with the hot steam.

By the age of five he was able to do the whole thing himself.  From getting the espresso machine ready, to packing the coffee.  To extracting the perfect espresso and golden crema and steaming the milk.  And he really surprised me when he was able to pour the milk and leave a 1cm head of velvety froth at the top of the glass.

I was so impressed with him, that I suggested that we do a book toegher.  He posed.  I took the photos.  He described the steps and I edited them.  Together we chose the photos and created the book as a downloadable PDF file.

The result?  The Perfect Home Espresso by Harley Lucas.  Check it out.
